Squall was NOT happy. He'd spent the past two days walking around the island. He'd talked to (NPC) shopkeepers, and waiters, and deliverypeople, and passers-by. He'd been friendly. He'd made small talk. He'd even, in the case of one overworked girl at Mooby Land, managed to be something almost approaching charming.

Not only had it not gotten him any closer to understanding what was going on, it was exhausting. And it sucked.

Hopefully, the Sorceress had had better luck.

For now, though, he was slumped on the couch in their strange host's apartment, staring at the floor. It had been that kind of day.

[For the apartment-mates]

It was a quiet day in the office of the Commander of Balamb Garden. Nobody had started any wars lately, monster activity was low, the reconstruction of Trebia was going smoothly, there weren’t any discipline issues with the cadets… There just wasn’t much to do.

And so the Commander and some friends were playing cards.Collapse )

Again, the awkward moment was broken, this time by a text from Rinoa.

PHONE GOT THROUGH portals may be up we're going back y/y???????????

Boy, Quistis was going to hate it when they left again.

Leon pushed aside a rock in the small cave he sometimes called home, revealing a hidey-hole in the wall. In there was a bedroll, some food, a few gil... and a battered deck of trading cards.

Obscure quirks of FFVIII game mechanics!Collapse )

And so, surrounded by a green glow and with the power of Quezacotl crackling through his fingers, Leon started slowly and methodically destroying one of his most prized possessions.

Tomorrow, he'd be ready.

The wildcat that Jono had been taking care of for the past two weeks paced back and forth in front of a door grumpily. Behind the door was something very, very important to him -- he was a little fuzzy on details -- and he absolutely needed to get at it.

When Joni looked like she was looking at him, he growled at her. Whatever.

He started scratching at the door -- not that it did much, but maybe eventually he'd get through. In fact, he stretched up on his hind legs to really sink his claws in and get his whole weight behind them. Luckily for him, he brushed up against the door handle in just the right way. The door swung open, and the wildcat tumbled into the room.

[For those who know who they are.]

Squall was nervous about leaving Rinoa alone with her father, but it would be a show of confidence in the general, and he had his own business to deal with.

Ever since Squall had handed command of Garden over to Quistis and gone to Fandom, she had acted like she was just holding the position until he reclaimed it. He was still being paid his SeeD salary, even. That had to stop. He didn't want the position -- he never had -- but even more than that, he was Rinoa's Knight, now, and politics were involved.

He hadn't told her he was coming. He just showed up in her doorway and knocked on the frame to get her attention. "Do you have a moment?"

(NFB, just for his NPC)

Last night had been a long and exciting one, especially the parts that took place in Squall's room. This morning, Squall had inexplicably woken up early and he was trying carefully to not wake up Rinoa. Lying in bed at staring at the ceiling -- one of Squall's most frequently indulged hobbies -- was much more enjoyable with a pretty girl snuggled against you.

(For the kidlets, and then open.)
